The Legacy

Dr. C. C. Patel, born on April 26, 1926, achieved academic excellence with a First Class Distinction Honors Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Bombay University. In 1948 and 1950, he secured the top position in the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) and Central Engineering Service (CES) examinations conducted by the UPSC. His distinguished government service commenced in 1950, culminating in his appointment as Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Irrigation in 1982.

His illustrious career also encompassed roles such as Senior Adviser on Water Resources at the United Nations, Chairman and Managing Director at Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd., Vice-Chairman of the Interlinking of Rivers Commission, and Chief Co-ordinator at the Kalpsar Project for the Government of Gujarat. Dr. Patel's international involvement extended to leadership positions and technical work in various countries, including his role as Additional Secretary to the Government of India and Chairman/Co-Chairman of the Indo-Bangladesh Joint Rivers Commission, Ministry of Agriculture & Irrigation (Department of Irrigation) in New Delhi.

With a visionary aim to develop and support Water Resources Projects through a team of experts, Dr. Patel founded C. C. Patel and Associates in October 1987.

Important Roles in Water Management

Dr. Patel's international involvement included serving as Vice President of the International Commission of Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) from 1976 to 2011, alongside contributions to the Indian National Committee of ICID (INCID). He was actively engaged in regulatory work related to Water Policy, Laws, Administration, and Management, considering pollution, ecology, and the environment.

Additionally, he was a member of the Government of India's Experts Committee, investigating cost escalations in irrigation and multipurpose projects, and the Western Yamuna Canal Augmentation Tubewell Schemes in Haryana, established in September 1972.
